Description :
Vintage Sugar Babies Playbill – Rooney & Miller Radiance! Celebrate the razzle-dazzle of Broadway’s burlesque revival with this original
Playbill from the Curran Theatre’s production of Sugar Babies—a
radiant tribute to the golden age of vaudeville and variety. The cover features
a striking black-and-white image of legendary stars Mickey Rooney,
making his Broadway debut, and Ann Miller, whose tap-dancing brilliance
lit up the stage. Inside, the Playbill credits a full ensemble of talent,
including featured performers Peter Leeds, Michael Davis, Bob
Williams, Sid Stone, Sharon Shore, Lee Roy Reams, and Jeffrey
B. Moss, each contributing to the revue’s high-energy blend of music,
comedy, and dance. The production was conceived by Ralph G. Allen and Harry Rigby,
with music by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Dorothy Fields and Al
Dubin. Direction of sketches was helmed by Rudy Tronto, choreography
by Ernest Flatt, and musical direction by Glen Roven, whose
arrangements brought vintage flair to modern audiences. Scenic and costume
design were crafted by Raoul Pène Du Bois, a Tony-winning designer whose
work defined the show’s visual opulence. The Playbill also credits Paul
Phillips as production stage manager and Robert L. Berman as general
manager, with Harry Rigby Productions overseeing the show’s
presentation. This Playbill includes a complete cast list, scene breakdowns, and
editorial features that immerse readers in the theatrical spirit of the era.
