Description :
Paramount Souvenir Booklet – Samson and Delilah (1949 Technicolor Epic) This authentic and richly illustrated souvenir booklet from Paramount Pictures commemorates the 1949 cinematic release of Samson and Delilah, a monumental biblical epic produced and directed by the legendary Cecil B. DeMille. A cornerstone of Golden Age Hollywood spectacle, this Technicolor masterpiece brought together an extraordinary ensemble of talent and craftsmanship, capturing audiences with its grandeur, romance, and moral drama. The film stars Hedy Lamarr in a career-defining role as Delilah, whose beauty and cunning challenge the strength and faith of Victor Mature as Samson, the Nazirite hero of ancient Israel. Supporting performances include the suave and calculating George Sanders as the Saran of Gaza, the luminous Angela Lansbury as Semadar, and Henry Wilcoxon as Prince Ahtur, each contributing to the film’s rich tapestry of betrayal, loyalty, and divine justice. Behind the camera, Cecil B. DeMille not only directed but also produced the film, ensuring his signature blend of historical spectacle and moral storytelling. The screenplay was penned by Jesse L. Lasky, Jr. and Fredric M. Frank, whose adaptation of the biblical narrative infused the film with dramatic depth and poetic resonance. The film’s vivid palette was brought to life through Technicolor, enhancing the visual splendor of ancient Philistia and the dramatic climax at the Temple of Dagon. This original Paramount booklet is a rare collector’s item, issued during the film’s initial release and not a reproduction or revival edition. It reflects the studio’s promotional artistry and reverence for its creative team, offering a window into the cinematic legacy of one of Hollywood’s most ambitious productions. Ideal for collectors of vintage film memorabilia, DeMille enthusiasts, and historians of post-war American cinema, this piece stands as a testament to the collaborative brilliance of its cast and creators.
