Description :

Leonard Sillman’s “New Faces of 1952” – Two-Piece Tour Ephemera Set

This rare and meticulously curated auction set features two authentic production-issued artifacts from Leonard Sillman’s New Faces of 1952 – A New Musical Revue, documenting both its iconic Broadway branding and its verified West Coast touring engagement. The first item is a souvenir cover printed on dusty pink cardstock, adorned with a dramatic feathered headdress illustration and the title Leonard Sillman’s New Face of 1952 engraved on the face itself. The cover’s layout and visual artistry evoke the sensibilities of Raoul Pène Du Bois, who designed the scenic elements of the show, and the reverse confirms a complete concentric credit layout surrounding a central ensemble photograph. Verified cast members printed on this edition include Ronny Graham, Faith Burwell, Johnny Laverty, Eartha Kitt, Carol Lawrence, Patricia Hammerlee, Paul Lynde, Robert Clary, Alice Ghostley, Allen Conroy, Elizabeth Logue, Bill Mullikin, Rosemary O'Reilly, Jimmy Russell, and Polly Ward. The second item is the full program from the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, documenting the December 1, 1953 touring engagement sponsored by Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., managed by William J. Zwissig, and staged under the ownership of Louis R. Lurie of The Lurie Company. Originally premiering at the Royale Theatre on Broadway, the revue was devised and staged by John Murray Anderson, with musical choreography by Richard Barstow, sketch direction by John Beal, and overall production supervision by Leonard Sillman. Music and lyrics were composed by Ronny Graham, Arthur Siegel, June Carroll, Sheldon Harnick, and Michael Brown, while the comedic sketches were written primarily by Ronny Graham and Melvin Brooks, marking some of Brooks’s earliest credited work in revue comedy. Raoul Pène Du Bois contributed scenic designs, Thomas Becher oversaw costume design, Ted Royal provided orchestral arrangements, and the production was conducted by Anton Coppola, whose musical direction reinforced the revue’s sophistication. Confirmed musical highlights including “Crazy Man!” and “Boston Beguine” appear within the program pages, matching the Broadway material and affirming its fidelity. These artifacts have been preserved in complete, unaltered state and together form a verifiable representation of one of Broadway’s most influential musical revues, distinguished by emerging star talent, collaborative comedic writing, and mid-century theatrical elegance. Collectors seeking cast-complete ephemera and historically precise production material will find this set a peerless acquisition.
